The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley and the Child & Family Center are kicking off Domestic Violence Awareness Month by joining forces to present “Unite Against Domestic Violence,” a free informational event aimed at raising awareness about the ongoing crisis of domestic violence.
The event is scheduled 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Child & Family Center, 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita.
According to the California Department of Justice, intimate partner violence affects approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men nationwide, a crisis that has deeply impacted families within the community, said a news release from Zonta.
“Domestic violence remains a pervasive issue in Santa Clarita Valley, with reports indicating a significant increase in domestic violence calls to local law enforcement,” the release said. “This event will shed light on this pressing issue through sharing resources, information and education. The gathering will feature impactful guest speakers, including Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo and Sheriff Capt. Brandon Barclay.”
Schiavo will discuss the legislation she has authored to combat abuse, to strengthen protections for survivors, and to improve resources for those escaping abusive situations. Barclay will address the role of law enforcement in handling domestic violence cases and share insights into how the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is working to protect vulnerable individuals and support victims.
The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley, part of Zonta International, is dedicated to ending gender-based violence worldwide.
This event is free and open to the public. Appetizers and beverages provided. RSVP by Oct. 1 to: [email protected].
