Zeus says his off meta Rek’Sai top lane pick was inspired by LEC

Zeus, renowned for his deep champion pool in League of Legends, surprised fans with a Rek’Sai pick during his team’s 3-0 sweep in LCK Summer Split playoffs against KT Rolster.
“Our head coach recommended it after seeing it in an LEC match. Rek’Sai got buffed in a recent patch, and I wanted to try her at least once,” Zeus said in an interview with Naver Sports. “Rek’Sai’s early game laning is actually weaker than people might expect, but starting at level two, she gets stronger. Her sustain is also decent. If you max E, her mobility and ability to trade improve a lot, which helps expand map control. Around 1-2 core items, she’s very strong at diving onto carries and bursting them down in fights.”
Reflecting on the pick, Zeus admitted that while initially hesitant, he soon found it fun. For him, the key lies in the laning phase: once you establish an early lead, Rek’Sai provides countless tools to control the tempo of the game.
With Patch 25.15, the developers reshaped Rek’Sai from an assassin into a champion that fits the meta. That shift has finally carried over to the LCK, where she’s begun to make her mark. Initially, BrokenBlade used the champion to secure a win in G2 Esports’ clash against Fnatic in the LEC Summer Split. Shortly after, MKOI’s top laner Myrwn attempted to use Rek’Sai to counter Sion in the playoffs, though the strategy ultimately fell short.
Before the rework, Rek’Sai was completely absent from international stages like FST, MSI, and EWC 2025. As Worlds 2025 comes closer, the champion could provide a valuable flex option for teams to counter tanks and bring value to the teamfights.
Unlike resource-intensive options, Rek’Sai works on her Fury to heal herself while dodging CC-based skill shots with her Burrows. Her ability to create tunnels to roam around the mid lane and jungle assists with putting pressure on the opponent while returning quickly to the lane to get her CS on time. Even though her assassin side has been changed, her ultimate is still a strong option to engage on the squishy backline threats from the enemy.
