Zac Efron’s Original ‘High School Musical’ Vocals Have Fans Saying the Exact Same Thing

While Zac Efron made a name for himself with Disney Channel’s High School Musical, not many fans knew the truth behind his vocals at the time. The musical TV movie later revealed that someone else was behind Efron’s musical numbers, with an archive of his original vocals leading fans to think one thing. The High School Musical Fan Archive on X released a full cut of the movie’s “Get’cha Head in the Game.” It’s an original demo of Efron’s vocals that haven’t been heard since the movie’s release 20 years ago. Efron was one of the main stars who didn’t sing his own songs, with professional Disney singer Drew Seeley belting the tunes in his place. The truth behind Seeley being Troy Bolton’s singing voice became widely discussed, and the new video has fans agreeing he was the right choice. “Okay this isn’t the worst but it shows how much he really improved in the later films… he lowkey owes drew seeley for this starting point in his career tho because i would not have been singing along to this version as a kid,” said one fan. Another added, “This is not bad at all, but I can see why they used Drew’s voice instead. Zac’s voice just needed a little bit of improvement.” “Disney Channel said, ‘at the end of the day, this is a BUSINESS.’ And they did the absolute right thing with having Drew sing! The movie would have been draggged if they kept Zac’s original vocals (which aren’t terrible, but can not lead off a franchise musical film,” said another. Many agreed that the rumors of Efron’s voice not being able to carry a tune were far-fetched, and he made up for it in the later installments. He also impressed fans when starring in Hairspray. Since the Disney Channel franchise, Efron and the cast have been open about Seeley’s involvement. Vanessa Hudgens also commented that Efron was great and worked hard, but needing help with a few notes “didn’t take away from his performance.” “I sang all the songs on-camera that I could, but some of the tracks had to be helped a little. Drew Seeley was amazing and made it all work,” said Efron to Entertainment Weekly.
