If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber missing ESPN, ABC, and other Disney-owned channels, you may be entitled to a refund. According to Syracuse.com, the blackout started as a contractual disagreement between Google-owned YouTube TV and Disney. The streaming service claims that Disney is asking for terms that would increase costs. Disney has responded stating that YouTube TV is not valuing its content fairly. The blackout, which began in late October, has left viewers without major sports broadcasts, including Monday Night Football, and other high-demand shows. It’s unclear when the blackout on YouTube TV will end. However, Google is now offering a $20 credit to customers impacted by the ongoing dispute, but it isn’t automatic. Subscribers must claim the refund themselves. Critics, such as Mike Florio, the creator of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports, say this extra step benefits Google because many customers may not realize the credit is available or forget to claim it. “They charged you for something they didn’t deliver. It’s not a gift — it’s your money,” wrote the columnist. To claim the credit, visit tv.youtube.com on your web browser and sign in. This cannot be claimed through the mobile app. Then, click on your profile picture in the upper-right corner, go to Settings and select Updates. Subscribers will see a button labeled “Claim Credit.” There are a few important caveats. The credit only applies to your next payment, not the current one. Also, if you have canceled or paused your YouTube TV subscription, you will need to reactivate it to claim the credit. For the official link and instructions, visit YouTube TV’s support page.
