A 20-year-old youth was beaten to death and the deceased’s relatives staged a road roko here on Friday (September 19, 2025).
The deceased was identified as V. Mohan Raj, a resident of Thirumalaigiri, who was working in a silver anklet unit. In July, during a local temple festival, a verbal duel broke out between his friends and another group led by Kaliappan (24). During the quarrel they attacked each other. The Kondalampatti police registered a case on both sides regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, when Mohan Raj was with his friend Sivanantham (19), a group of people led by Kaliappan took the duo to Vedukathanpatti and attacked them with knives. In the attack, they sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to the Salem government hospital. The Steel Plant police registered a case regarding the incident and arrested eight persons, including Kaliappan. They were remanded in prison.
On Friday, Mohan Raj succumbed to injuries. Following his death, his relatives staged a road roko before the Salem Collectorate and demanded the arrest of all the people involved in the attack. The police held talks and pacified them.
