You could get paid to live at Buckingham Palace and anyone can apply

Buckingham Palace is recruiting staff, with the positions said to offer “a generous benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and life priorities”. A number of the roles are live-in, meaning successful candidates will move onto royal grounds.

And one vacancy doesn’t even require any experience. The closing date for the Kitchen Porter position is Sunday, September 28, with a starting date of October 2025 and a two-year contract. It is a full time role, up to 45 hours a week, Monday to Sunday though only working five of these days in any seven.

While experience “in a similar role would be an advantage”, it isn’t essential as staff will be fully trained on-site. Other desirable criteria includes taking pride in your work, enjoying working as part of a team, being “happy to get involved”, and being “keen to develop your skills and gain experience within an exceptional team environment”.

No salary is listed on the job advertisement, though it is said to be “competitive plus benefits”. A salary adjustment will be made to take into account the accommodation and meals given too.

According to the official Royal website: “We work hard to ensure our salaries are reflective of the market median, and we offer a competitive reward package to all employees. We review basic pay rates each year, and offer performance rewards to recognise your achievements.”
