A new bakery specializing in croissants has opened in Worcester’s Tatnuck neighborhood. The Yolk & Crumb officially opened on Nov. 1 at 1130 Pleasant St. and is owned by Milford husband and wife duo Matthew and Jutha Parent. The bakery has become so popular the Parents sold out of baked goods three times in a row, according to Matthew Parent. As such, the store is temporarily closed until Sunday, Nov. 9 to prepare new pastries for the upcoming week, according to their Facebook page. Matthew Parent said the online community has been very understanding about the situation. “We prepared for a good amount of the stuff that we were expecting,” Jutha Parent told MassLive. “But the warm welcoming that the neighborhood and the people around here [gave] us was [unexpected].” Jutha Parent is responsible for making the croissants and spends her days mixing and fermenting the dough. The types of croissants featured at the Yolk & Crumb include plain, chocolate and ham and cheese. A video on the bakery’s Facebook page shows a plethora of pastries, including brownies, muffins and cakes. Parent, who was taught at Le Cordon Bleu Dusit in Bangkok, Thailand, said said she was inspired by her grandmother to go into the culinary world. “I saw her doing cooking for the village,” she said. “If the village had an event, she was always a volunteer. She always got an invite.” In 2017, Parent moved to the United States and met her eventual husband online. After she moved, she said she wanted to learn how chefs operate in large kitchens. In 2023, she was employed as a pastry chef at the Omni Hotel in Seaport and the Raffles Hotel in Back Bay. “We served like, 2,000 people at a time,” Parent said. “I kind of feel like I learned a lot from the job.” Following her time working in Boston hotels, Jutha Parent decided to open her own bakery. She and her husband opened the store in Worcester, not far from their hometown of Milford. For Jutha Parent, the most enjoyable thing about owning a business is seeing people enjoy her creations. “I enjoy just seeing people eating and having a smile and say ‘like, that’s so good,’” she said. Matthew Parent, who has a full-time job outside of the bakery, sometimes greets people at Yolk & Crumb, he told MassLive. He added more seasonal items will eventually be added to the menu and thanked the community for welcoming them to Worcester. “We’re just excited to just really bring some amazing stuff to the neighborhood,” Parent said. “I think the people of Worcester are going to be very excited to taste what she [Jutha Parent] has to offer.”
