The Xiaomi 17 series has officially arrived in China, and this time, it’s safe to say that it is more than a flagship smartphone. Yes, it gets all the top-notch features such as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, new camera layout with secondary screen, and much more. But what’s turning heads is its 100W universal fast charging technology.
Xiaomi brings new 100W universal fast charging tech
For years, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have led the way in fast charging. Some devices have gone as far as to offer 120W fast charging. While the charging speeds are surely impressive, the main problem with the proprietary tech is that it only works with the company’s official charging gadgets. The moment you switch to third-party adapters, charging speed starts to fall.
Xiaomi is, however, rewriting the rules. With the Xiaomi 17 series, the company is offering 100W universal fast charging tech. It delivers power using USB PD PPS. This is the same charging tech used by Apple, Google, and Samsung. This means that Xiaomi’s newest phone won’t require the official charger to supply 100W power input. Any PD PPS compatible charger with a power output rating of 100W or above can fuel it up blazing fast. This eliminates the need for multiple proprietary chargers and creates a simpler, eco-friendlier charging ecosystem.
This move now puts pressure on Google, Apple, and Samsung
