Xiaomi 17 Flagship Series Launch Date and Design Officially Revealed

After a handful of teasers and leaks, Xiaomi has finally revealed the launch date for its next-gen flagship smartphones: the Xiaomi 17 series. The company already teased the design of one of the models in the new series recently. Now, it has released a bunch of full-fledged promotional photos on its social channels in China, revealing their designs from all angles. Additionally, a Xiaomi exec has compared the 17 Pro Max with the iPhone 17 Pro Max side by side.
Xiaomi is launching three new flagship smartphones later this week
Xiaomi has announced that its new Xiaomi 17 series flagship lineup will finally see the light of day at an event in China on September 25th. The brand will reveal as many as three new devices at the event: the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The firm is calling the Xiaomi 17 its “most powerful standard flagship” to date. While it is positioning the 17 Pro as the “finest compact imaging flagship” and describing the 17 Pro Max as the “ultimate peak of Xiaomi’s imaging technology.”
Talking about the design, it looks like only the Pro models in the Xiaomi 17 series will get the secondary display around the cameras. The vanilla model appears to have a smaller camera island at the back, sans a tiny screen. Features-wise, Xiaomi has confirmed that these will be the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which Qualcomm will introduce on September 23.
Xiaomi has also revealed that the vanilla model in the series will have an upgraded 6.3-inch display with “ultra-elliptical” corners. The phone will feature a 1.18mm ultra-narrow bezel and a screen-to-body ratio of 19.6:9. While it’s not official, the 17 Pro variant could also have a 6.3-inch display, while the 17 Pro Max could stretch to 6.8-inch.
Xiaomi President compares the 17 Pro Max to the iPhone 17 Pro Max
Just a few days ahead of the launch, Lu Weibing, Xiaomi’s president, has compared the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. There isn’t much difference between the camera islands of these phones until the secondary small screen of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max turns on. Basically, the comparison posted by the executive serves to demonstrate that Xiaomi did not copy Apple’s design.
He explains that the design of the 17 Pro Max draws inspiration from the Mi 11 Ultra released in 2021. Recent teasers have revealed that users can utilize the secondary screen on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max to handle calls, control music, display travel information, set timers, and use it as a selfie viewfinder for the rear cameras.
Xiaomi hasn’t yet confirmed if it’ll launch all three Xiaomi 17 series smartphones globally. However, some unofficial sources suggest that the brand will launch the Pro models with the secondary displays only in China.
Xiaomi has also confirmed that the entire 17 series of phones will flaunt LEICA-powered cameras. Apart from these phones, the company will also introduce the Xiaomi Pad 8 series of tablets at the upcoming event.
