Xbox reps comment on Costco no longer carrying its consoles and I don’t care because I’m a PlayStation girlie

Costco is no longer carrying Xbox consoles due to a mysterious “business decision.” Costcos across the world are clearing out existing inventory, removing Xbox systems from every store. The decision was finalized and announced in late September 2025, but gamers are left wondering why. Why is Costco not selling Xbox anymore? I don’t know, to be honest. But we can speculate. In a statement to LA Times Studios, a Costco spokesperson confirmed that Xbox and all its hardware are being wiped from the retail chain, including all 11 countries its in. They said it’s a “business decision” but didn’t really offer any further details. The gaming community has speculated that it’s due to yet another price increase. Effective October 3rd, 2025, the Xbox Series S model will go from $379.99 to $399.99, while the base model Series X will go from $549.99 to $599.99. The Series X with 2TB will become the first-ever $800 Xbox console. “We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players,” Microsoft said in an earlier statement. These extreme price hikes (two in just five months) may have turned Costco off from the consoles. The Costco spokesperson did confirm that the stores will still carry PlayStation stuff. So maybe this will end the long-time debate between the two console giants for some Costco loyalists.
