WWE Hall of Famer Barry Windham shared difficult news regarding the health of his long-time tag team partner and brother-in-law, Mike Rotunda, also a WWE Hall of Famer. The update came during a recent interview Windham conducted with renowned wrestling journalist Bill Apter. Rotunda is well-known to wrestling fans for his memorable portrayals of characters like the taxman Irwin R. Shyster (I.R.S.) and the businessman Michael Wallstreet. The interview began with Windham discussing various aspects of his own illustrious career, mentioning key influences such as Dusty Rhodes, Eddie Graham, and Don Muraco. However, the conversation took a somber turn when Apter brought up the tragic passing of Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) in August 2023. Bray Wyatt was Mike Rotunda’s son and Barry Windham’s nephew, making the loss deeply personal for both men. While reflecting on Bray Wyatt, Windham became emotional before revealing the news about Mike Rotunda's current health situation. “It’s kind of tough right now,” Windham shared hesitantly (H/T to WrestlingNews.co). “You know, Mike is in hospice right now.” Windham emphasized his strong bond with the Rotunda family, simply stating, “I love that family”. When Apter asked about Bray Wyatt's best quality, Windham offered a heartfelt description: “He was just a good boy. He was such a good person. Never got in trouble at all his whole life”. Windham recalled meeting Rotunda in Toronto back in 1982, even before Rotunda had started his wrestling training in Germany. “I mean, just like we were old friends when we first met,” Windham remembered. “So when he showed up in Florida, you know, we hit it off right off the bat, you know, like old pals forever”. He even shared a piece of advice Rotunda once gave him: “Slow down”. As the interview drew to a close, Apter asked Windham if he had a message for the fans who have followed his career. Windham took the opportunity to redirect the focus towards his friend and former partner, making a heartfelt request. “Well, it’s been a great ride, and I would like for you all to pray for Mike,” Windham asked the fans. Apter joined in the sentiment, concluding with, “Pray for Mike Rotunda. We love you, Mike”. The news about Mike Rotunda comes during a period where the wrestling world continues to feel the absence of his son, Bray Wyatt. Wyatt's creative legacy is still acknowledged within WWE, with elements potentially influencing the ongoing 'Uncle Howdy' storyline that re-debuted earlier this year, featuring Wyatt's real-life brother, Bo Dallas (Taylor Rotunda).
