Some crimes are so shocking that they refuse to fade away with time. Even months later, the details continue to shock, show how dark human actions can be. One such incident from West Bengal’s Hooghly district remains a disturbing example.
The case, which took place in February last year, recently resurfaced after an Instagram post brought it back into public attention. The post shared horrific details about how a mother murdered her own son with the help of her partner.
Mother Murders Her 8-Year-Old Son
The victim was eight-year-old Shreyanshu Sharma. The police revealed that his mother, Shanta Sharma, killed him because she saw him as “an obstacle” in her same-sex relationship with her girlfriend, Ishrat Parveen alias Guddi. The incident took place in Konnagar, Hooghly, after Shreyanshu reportedly discovered the two together in an intimate moment. Fearing that he might reveal their relationship, Shanta, with the help of her partner, carried out the murder.

Brutal Details Of The Crime
According to the post, the child’s body was severely mutilated. His head was injured, his wrist veins were slit and there were numerous stab wounds. DCP Arnab Biswas stated during a press conference at Uttarpara police station that the “the only witness” was his pet dog, Shadow.
Husband Knew About Homosexual Relationship
The investigation revealed that both women had been close friends even before their marriages. “Shanta got married in 2012, while Parveen married in 2018. However, within a few months, Parveen left her husband’s house. Both families were aware that the two frequently visited each other’s homes and spoke on the phone till late at night,” DCP Biswas had said at the time.
Some reports also stated that Shanta’s husband knew about her relationship but chose to remain silent.
The Motive Behind The Murder
The police said that Shanta and Ishrat were lesbians and had been involved in the relationship even before Shanta’s marriage. After Shreyanshu found out about it, he reportedly remained under considerable mental stress.
The police further claimed that the two women were afraid that the child might reveal their homosexual relationship to someone so they conspired to kill him and erase all evidence of the murder.
Investigation And Arrest
Authorities collected forensic evidence, CCTV footage and mobile tower location data to piece together the crime. The police, based on all the investigative data, confirmed that Shanta and her girlfriend were involved in the brutal murder. Following the investigation, the duo was arrested.
