Wrexham and Birmingham’s managers have stressed that they won’t be swayed by the buzz surrounding their Championship face-off on Friday night. The Red Dragons are poised to welcome the Blues in a match set to be broadcast live to supporters across the globe. The encounter has been christened the “Hollywood derby” by some, given Wrexham’s co-ownership by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac , whilst Birmingham are part-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady. Both clubs clinched automatic promotion from League One last term and also feature in their own TV documentaries. The inaugural meeting between these two sides in the third tier last season unfolded at St. Andrews, culminating in a 3-1 victory for Birmingham. Brady and Mac were both present for that match alongside David Beckham , with the return fixture concluding in a 1-1 stalemate. However, Birmingham manager Chris Davies is adamant that he and his team will not be sidetracked by whoever is in attendance the Racecourse Ground this time round. Speaking to Sky Sports prior to the showdown, he said: “I detach myself from the hype around games. I have no interest in who is in the stadium. That has no bearing on our job. I only see the opposition we are trying to beat. “Last season we finished first, they finished second. They were a very good League One team and we had tough games against them. Phil Parkinson has done exceptional work to get them three promotions in a row. “We know it will be a challenge, especially away, but if we play our game well we believe we can get the result we want.” He added: “I encourage the players to put blinkers on and focus on what is important, which is the football. Everything else is noise and distraction. Players will see social media and outside talk, but I remind them to focus on the pitch.” Birmingham enter the fixture sitting 11th in the standings, whilst Wrexham occupy 15th position. Both sides have lofty aspirations, with their respective owners holding dreams of guiding their teams into the Premier League . The Red Dragons are yet to secure a league victory on home soil this campaign following defeats to West Brom and QPR, alongside draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Derby. Meanwhile, Birmingham have managed just one win in their previous five Championship outings. Similarly to his opposite number, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is determined to concentrate on the match itself rather than the surrounding spectacle. “We haven’t really referenced the rivalry from last year too much because I think it’s out there for everybody to know,” Parkinson told the BBC . “We had two competitive games against them last year and there was so much attention around the games. “It’s more about what we have been doing well and reproducing that and also looking at the detail of what Birmingham are all about.” Wrexham midfielder Matty James said the squad will maintain their focus on the contest following their 1-1 draw at Leicester during the week. “The owners are superstars in their own right in different industries, and I think naturally that brings a huge amount of media attention that can sometimes kind of distract you away from what is actually going on,” he said. “I think certainly the outside noise is very, very big. But for us as a group I think when you are at Wrexham, we are kind of used to it a little bit. “Birmingham it’s a little bit new over the last couple of years, but for us we let the outside noise do what it needs to do. We’ll go out there, put a performance in and hopefully get the three points on Friday night.”
