Apollo Cancer Centre, Visakhapatnam, in association with DATRI Blood Stem Cell Registry, observed World Marrow Donor Day at its Oncology Department on Saturday to spread awareness on the importance of stem cell donation and to celebrate donors who bring hope to patients fighting blood cancers and other critical disorders.
A successful transplant recipient and a donor shared their personal experiences of courage, compassion and recovery. Their journey illustrated how one selfless decision to register as a donor can save a life. Both the donor and recipient were felicitated on the occasion, receiving warm appreciation for their inspiring contributions.
Speaking at the event, the medical experts urged more individuals aged between 18 and 50 years to register as voluntary stem cell donors, noting that a simple cheek swab test could one day make them a lifesaving “hope hero.”
The event was attended by leading specialists including Rakesh Reddy Boya (senior consultant – medical and hemato oncology), Pradeep Ventrapati (consultant – medical and hemato oncology), P. Ravindra Kumar (consultant – medical oncology), G. Veni Prasanna (consultant pathologist), Santhoshi Madhuri (head of oncology services ) and Krishna Prasad (unit head Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam).
