Trivandrum Physiatrists Club, an association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialists, organised World Cerebral Palsy Day observance and a health awareness programme on Tuesday at the Urban Resource Centre, Pettah.
P. Selvan, State president of the Indian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Professor, Department of PMR Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the event.
Children with cerebral palsy and their parents and special educators participated. Doctors stressed the importance of early detection of cerebral palsy and how the parents needed the support of the community. Classes were taken on the comprehensive care of children with cerebral palsy, covering topics such as nutrition, special care for complications like spasticity and epilepsy, mental health care and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPWD Act).
