BARBERTON — A multiyear road project to improve Wooster Road West in the City of Barberton is nearing completion as the road was opened to two-way traffic Oct. 25. Justin Chesnic, Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 public information officer, said the $9 million project, which began in the spring of 2024, included resurfacing Wooster Road West from 31st Street to Hudson Run Road and reconstructing Wooster Road from Hudson Run Road to Second Street. The reconstruction portion included sewer and drainage improvements, new sidewalks, a road diet, bridge repairs and new signage and striping. In a video posted on Facebook, Barberton Mayor William Judge said the city secured grant funding to fund a large portion of the project. “This project would not be possible without those grants and the passage of Issue 8 back in 2013,” Judge said. “I appreciate everyone’s patience during this long process, but this was a major reconstruction project that we are very excited about that is now open to two-way traffic.” He added there is still some minor work to be done along the corridor, and motorists should be cautious as that work is completed. Chesnic said the remaining work will lead to some lane restrictions through mid-November.
