Woman’s Goa Trip Turns Into A Nightmare After Harassment By Drivers: ‘Yahan Bahut Gundagardi Hai’

A trip that was meant to be relaxing and enjoyable turned into a nightmare for a woman from Ahmedabad during her visit to Goa. According to the woman, she was harassed by local drivers who had allegedly stopped her taxi, which she had booked through an app. She claimed they refused to let the cab move and forced her to walk several kilometres with her luggage in the rain.
In a video shared online, the woman explained that the incident occurred when she had booked a cab online to travel from South Goa to the airport.
“Waha pe cab walo ki itni gundagardi hai – jahan ka charge sirf Rs 1500 to 1800 hota hai, waha ka charge wo 3,500 se lekar 4,000 tak kar rahe hai. Aur jab waha pe aap kisi online booking se cab bulaoge toh uske sath itna pareshan karte hai. Waha ke clients ko bahut harass karte hai (The taxi drivers there (South Goa) are so unruly – the normal fare is only Rs 1,500 to 1,800, they were charging Rs 3,500 to 4,000. And if you book a cab online, they make it very difficult for you. They harass them,” she said.

Harassment Over Cab Booking
The tourist alleged that when her cab arrived, local drivers blocked it from moving forward. She said, “Jab meri cab aayi, inhone cab ko aage jane nahi diya, inhone mujhko cab mein nhi baithne diya. Barish ke time pe mujhko apna sara luggage leke padel nikalna pada aur mein bilkul bhig chuki hu (When my cab arrived, they did not let it go forward, they did not let me get into the cab. In the rain, I had to carry all my luggage and walk and I was completely soaked).”
According to her, she was forced to walk several kilometres before she could book another taxi to reach the airport. The woman, visibly emotional, added that the experience was not just physically exhausting but also emotionally draining.
“Aur waha se bahut kilometre aage padal chal kar aane ke bad, maine ek taxi book kari aur ab mein airport ki taraf jari hu. Itna pathetic experience hai mera (After walking several kilometres, I booked another taxi and am now heading to the airport. This was such a pathetic experience),” she continued.
Repeated Threats And Intimidation
The woman further claimed that the drivers even threatened her with police intervention, saying, “Madam, you cannot go forward. Wait until the police arrive, then you can proceed.” She expressed frustration over how tourists were being harassed and claimed that she was unsure about the role of local authorities in such situations.
In addition to the drivers, the woman claimed that the resort staff failed to provide assistance during the ordeal.
“Resort wale bhi kuch nahi karte hai esme. Hum waha per day Rs 5000 to Rs 6000 dete hai, uske bad bhi unka itna pathetic behaviour hai ki wo aakar bas patch-up kara rahe hai aur mujko nikalne mein koi help nhi kar rahe (The resort staff also does nothing. We pay Rs 5,000 to 6,000 per day, and still their behaviour is so pathetic that they just try to patch things up and did not help me in any other way).”
She concluded her video with a warning for other tourists, saying, “Aap yaha aao toh dhyan rakhna ki South Goa ka haal jyada bura hai aur yaha par aapko as a tourist, police ki dhamkiya di jati hai. Cab walo ki aisi monopoly ki unhone puri loot macha ke rakhi hai (If you come here, be careful — the situation in South Goa is worse, and as a tourist, you may even face threats involving the police. The taxi drivers have such a monopoly that they practically exploit everyone).”
Police Action Taken
According to a report in O Heraldo, Colva police have registered an FIR against three taxi drivers. They were identified as Menino D’Silva, Milagres Almeida and Agnelo Rodrigues, all residents of Betalbatim.
Police officials have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
