A woman who identifies as a vampire left This Morning viewers intrigued as she explained she does not drink blood but instead ‘feeds on’ human energy – and even admitted that she feels physically sick in sunlight.
Helly, from Rhode Island in the United States, joined Cat Deeley, 48, and Ben Shephard, 50, on Monday’s episode via video link, where she opened up about her unconventional lifestyle.
Far from the gothic stereotype, Helly appeared cheerful and candid throughout the segment.
Cat began the interview by remarking: ‘You’re very smiley for a vampire, I have to say, when did you first identify as a vampire?’
Helly explained that her awakening came only three years ago: ‘It ended up being around March of 2022 when I had been already doing vampire stuff on a cosplay level.
‘But I looked in the mirror and thought, “This is not a costume, there is definitely more to this.”

Far from the gothic stereotype, Helly, from Rhode Island, appeared cheerful and candid throughout the segment
‘I feel like it really is the spiritual side of it, there is a level of darkness there, but a fun darkness.’
Naturally, the presenters asked whether Helly actually drinks human blood.
Helly, upbeat and smiling, quickly reassured them: ‘I do not drink people’s blood, I want everyone to know I do not do that.
‘I feed off of their energy instead and that may be why I’m so energised right now.’
Ben compared her unusual practice to Reiki, describing it as the reverse of the Japanese healing art.
Helly agreed, adding: ‘It is absolutely akin to Reiki, I always ask first before I just take people’s energy. I gotta ask – it’s the polite thing to do.’
Discussing how others respond to her self-declared identity, Helly admitted she encounters mixed reactions.
‘Some people were really supportive,’ she said. ‘They would say things like “I’m so proud you’re finally embracing who you are.”

‘But there were other people saying, “This is not who she is,” and of course people asking, “Is that really appropriate?”‘
During a round of vampire ‘myth-busting,’ the presenters put some age-old beliefs to Helly.

This Morning’s new presenter revealed – and he’s the brother of Hollywood star Tom Holland
Asked about sunlight, she said: ‘I feel very nauseous, very faint, and will always need a round of energy after being in the sun, but I love garlic, it makes me so happy.’
Helly also spoke warmly about her marriage to husband John, who does not share her vampiric beliefs.
She said: ‘We actually met during the day, he’s not a vampire, he’s not spiritual in that sense but he is very supportive.’
To critics who dismiss her lifestyle, Helly had a defiant message: ‘I feel sorry for you because the reason you’re so critical of me is because you’re not getting to live the life you want to live.
‘So, you’re taking it out on me, someone who is, and who is making those moves.’
Her father, she revealed, discovered her identity through a newspaper article, and responded with pride.
‘He texted saying “I’m so proud of you for being out and proud and living your truth,” she recalled.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 from 10am and is available to stream on ITVX.
