A dispute over a cab fare is going viral online. While the full details remain unclear, a video circulating on social media shows a woman refusing to pay Rs 300 to an Uber driver, allegedly blaming him for a delayed ride. Many viewers, however, questioned how the driver could be held responsible for traffic congestion.
Social media users widely criticised the woman for her behaviour, noting that she could flaunt an expensive phone yet refuse to pay for a service, even though the driver was reportedly not at fault.
The Argument Over Rs 300 Fare
The video, recorded by the driver himself, captures a tense exchange. The driver says, “Badtameezi aapne ki hai (You have been rude),” while the woman replies, “Mai Uber se baat karungi (I will talk to Uber).
The driver responds, “Uber se baat nahi, mere paise lekar bhaag rahi ho. Late aap hui ho…jam ke andar 2 mins late. Main nhi hua hu. Mere Rs 300 aap lekar bhag rahe ho (Don’t talk to Uber, you are running away with my money. You were late… just 2 minutes in traffic. It’s not my fault. You are running away with my Rs 300).”
At one point, the woman is heard saying, “Tum bus wale se lad rahe the (You were fighting with the bus guy),” possibly alleging that the driver delayed intentionally.
The driver, frustrated, replies, “Rs 300 dene ki aukaat nahi hoti hai tum logo ki, gaadiyo mein kya baithoge aap. Rs 300 ki jagah Rs 3 lakh ka nuksaan nhi hua tumhara toh mera naam bhi Ram nahi hai (You people don’t even have the capacity to pay Rs 300, how will you ride cars? If you didn’t suffer a loss of Rs 3 lakh, then my name is not Ram).”
Despite his frustration, the woman ignores him and walks into a building without paying the driver.
The video has overlay text like “Traffic lag jae toh driver ki galti hai kya (Is it the driver’s fault if there’s traffic?)” and “Driver ke Rs 300 nahi diya (Didn’t pay the driver Rs 300).”

Social Media Speaks Up
Viewers didn’t hold back their thoughts. Many pointed out the difference between her lifestyle and refusing to pay for a driver’s labour.
One user commented, “A one lakh phone and at least a Rs 30,000 saree worn by madam — and she’s not even giving the taxi driver up to 300 rupees… The taxi driver must have been late too, probably because of traffic. Money has come, but values have gone.”
Another wrote, “In reality, they aren’t as civilised as they portray themselves to be.”
“The pain in his voice is so disheartening,” someone else said, while a person added, “The cost of her cruelty will come back a hundredfold.”
“She seemingly didn’t pay the cab/auto bill because it was late? If it was traffic, it’s not the driver’s fault,” a viewer noted.
“I feel that in India we tend to take our Uber drivers and service people as lesser than us. This money means a lot to these folks and can mean profit or loss for a day,” read another comment.
Another Ride, Another Row
A few days ago, another similar incident caught attention online. In that case, a woman allegedly threatened a cab driver that she would leave without paying. The argument was over the drop-off location, with the driver insisting he would not go beyond the point set in the ride-hailing app. The disagreement escalated into a heated exchange, and eventually, the woman walked away without paying.
