In a viral Reddit post, a cat owner finds two felines sleeping on her couch—but she only has one cat, and he’s not one of them.
The heartwarming clip shared on Thursday by u/Robynellawque, shows two fluffy tuxedos curled up on the couch in front of the TV, comfortably napping on a pair of pillows, as if it was their own home.
Meanwhile her cat is in a different location, unbothered by the strangers who randomly took his couch.
“Woke up to two different neighbors cats asleep on my sofa. My cat is asleep on the turntable,” the poster writes in the post.
“I usually have my neighbors black and white cat Chippy in my house but never have woken up to the smaller cat Vevo in here from another neighbor!” she explains.
“It could be that my eldest cat was pts [put to sleep] three weeks ago and he hated any strays. I miss him so much but is this the answer—a sanctuary for neighbors cats?!” she continues.
Whether it’s in their own home, at the neighbors’, or outdoors on top of the yard fence, cats just love sleeping. In fact, they sleep around 12-16 hours a day on average. But what makes our felines sleep so much?
Cats sleep a lot because it helps them conserve energy for activities like hunting and exploring, according to Pet MD.
Their sleep needs vary by age: kittens may sleep up to 20 hours daily, while senior cats may sleep more due to reduced activity or health issues. Factors like breed, diet, and lifestyle also affect sleep patterns.
Cats take frequent short naps, allowing them to stay alert to threats. Boredom, stress, or anxiety can also increase sleep, as can illness or injury. Conditions like arthritis, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes may cause excessive sleep and require veterinary attention.
If your cat suddenly sleeps more than usual or shows other behavioral changes, it’s a good idea to consult your vet. Sometimes, the solution may be more stimulation, toys, or attention to keep them active and engaged.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 5,800 views and 150 comments on the platform.
One user, RJ2227, commented: “So sorry for your loss! This is so cute to wake up and find that your cat has had a sleepover and probably a party all night. And he was the DJ. Then to think you slept through all of it. They might have slipped you something.”
Bstrauss3 said: “I mean you hear about human moms creating the place where all the kids in the neighborhood hang out, so they can create a safe place and know where their kid is. Congrats you’re the cat mom equivalent.”
Zzzzzzzpost added: “Best house party ever! One dude is laser eying like you’re the problem and the other is passed the F out. Your cat’s like ‘Yeah, cool, good party.'”
