A woman has divided the internet after admitting what her new boyfriend does after sex – and people can’t decide if it’s “disgusting” or “completely fine." Posting on Reddit’s r/dating_advice forum , the anonymous social media user said she’s been seeing a new man and things in the bedroom have been “amazing” – until he pulls out his vape pen the moment they’re done. In her post, titled ‘Is it acceptable to vape after sex?’, she wrote: “I’ve just started dating this new man, it’s been great and he really keeps up with me. But once we finish, rather than going straight for a cuddle, he grabs his vape and starts puffing away. It’s a bit of a turn off. Can I ask him to stop or will he take it badly? Is vaping after sex acceptable?” The post has blown up among Reddit’s 4.6 million users – and the comments have been spicy. Some branded the woman controlling, while others sided with her, calling the habit “an instant ick” and “a red flag”. User Ketzer47 snapped about her bloke’s post-coital habit: “Red flag! Cut this jerk out of your life! You deserve a man who doesn’t vape after sex!” Another critic of the vape-loving fella added: “This would give me an ick so big you could see it from space.” But plenty leapt to his defence, saying it’s no big deal. One user, DrFrostHazer, said: “Women will never understand men and how they feel after sex. Let the guy vape! It’s a necessity for him.” Others even confessed they’ve done the same – or worse. Reddit poster MrBagSlash joked: “Depends who you ask. My ex and I used to vape during sex.” And Imtired333 added: “I’ve had a guy hit his vape mid-stroke – it’s subjective.” But not everyone was convinced. One Redditor, Double_philosopher14, suggested the puffing might mean the woman’s partner wasn’t completely satisfied. They wrote: “Vaping gives a dopamine hit – maybe he’s not fully happy with the sex. Bring your A-game next time.” Meanwhile, user Garbagepickle – a self-confessed female vaper – said she enjoys a vape after sex too, but only after some affection: “I’m a vaper and I do enjoy my vape after sex, BUUUT I’m much more interested in aftercare first!” Now even experts are wading into the debate. David Donaghy, a smoking cessation specialist from award-winning e-liquid producer, Riot Labs , said: “Vaping is backed by Public Health England as the most effective quitting tool for smokers, with research showing it to be 95% safer than cigarettes. For years, smoking after sex has appeared in popular culture, film and TV series - but with millions of Brits depending on vaping to quit, it’s no surprise the habit is entering the bedroom. If reaching for nicotine to keep that post-sex “high” going, then opting for a vape is a much safer option”. Another self-proclaimed Reddit expert, Sea-garlic-1192, agreed with his view. They said: “Sex has long been a trigger for smokers, so if your partner’s switched to a vape, take it as progress! Maybe just agree to cuddle first before the puff.” Despite the outrage over the woman’s complaint, experts say the post-sex habit enjoyed by millions of lovers of reaching for a vape or cigarette is one that blends chemistry, psychology and ritual. Nicotine stimulates receptors in the brain that trigger dopamine release in the reward circuits – a mechanism described in studies published in Psychopharmacology and in research from the U.S. National Institutes of Health. The dopamine surge may heighten the post-orgasmic “afterglow”. For many, the act of vaping after sex is a far healthier option – with experts hailing it as a way lovers can slow their breath, reclaim calm and mark the moment with a ritual which echoes the cinematic tradition of the post-coital smoke, but without the risks of cigarettes.
