A woman has been charged after former Bournemouth striker Jordan Chiedozie – son of ex-Tottenham Hotspur winger John – lost a leg when he was hit by a car on a motorway hard shoulder in February. He had pulled over on the side of the motorway to investigate and change a flat tyre near Ower in Hampshire when the crash happened. Chiedozie – who had also turned out for Poole Town and Southern League club Bashley FC during his career – was travelling home after the latter's visit to Tavistock with club physio Reighan Taylor on February 1 when they stopped between junction two and three on the eastbound carriageway. A car crashed into him and, late that night, he was put into an induced coma. As a result, he needed to have his right leg amputated and suffered open fractures on his left leg along with a cracked pelvis. Immediately after the crash, his teammates set up a GoFundMe and raised north of £34,000. "It's not something I expected, but it's really good to see," Chiedozie said in response to the funds being raised. "A lot of old teammates, old friends and people that I've not had contact with for a while, to hear from them, it's been good." Woman Charged After Chiedozie Loses Leg in Car Crash In the months that followed, Chiedozie has kept supporters up to date with his recovery process – with footage of him in the gym looking to return to some sort of normality after his life-changing injuries. Chiedozie, 31, spoke to the Southern Daily Echo in the months following the crash and claimed that he doesn't like to dwell on his situation. "I think you just have to [stay positive], you just have to get on with it. If you stay too much thinking of what happened and the past, I don't think that helps with the recovery and being able to get as close to normal as before, going forward." A prosthetic leg was fitted in July – and the ex-frontman said he is "getting used to getting up on my feet and using it again." In an interview with the BBC, he said: "It takes time, but I'm getting there in terms of recovery – I'm getting better. I've still got a long journey, learning a whole new lifestyle with a prosthetic leg." Elsewhere, Anna Bogusiewicz of Wraysbury, Berkshire, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving. Initially, she was arrested but later bailed until May 1, which was extended until August 1. Bogusiewicz denied the charge of drink driving when she appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court, while there was no plea entered for the dangerous driving charge. The defendant is now due to appear at Southampton Crown Court on December 1. Having started his career at Bournemouth when the Cherries were in League One and the Championship, Chiedozie went on to play for clubs including Cambridge United, Margate and AFC Totton. During his career, he was also self-employed in the building industry. Various loan spells in non-league and a brief stint in League Two Cambridge United saw the promising centre-forward get some minutes under his belt. His aforementioned dad, John, was a winger for the likes of Leyton Orient and Notts County before moving to Spurs for £375,000 in 1984. In July, the striker was welcomed – by receiving a standing ovation – by fans and teammates alike back onto the pitch for Bashley's benefit match against Bournemouth. The visitors won 6-1 but posting on X, Bashley FC said the result didn't matter. "The football came second today, it was all about showing support and love to the inspirational Jordan Chiedozie" they said.
