Woman buys pumpkin and is gobsmacked by her cat's unexpected reaction

Cat lovers have been left amazed after a woman shared the story of how her cat had a unique reaction to one of her Halloween pumpkins. Kat Newquist has gained a following of over two million people on TikTok, as she often shares and documents the unique and funny moments of being a cat owner to three indoor cats , named Dave, Gandalf, and Natilla. While most cat owners will known that owning cats comes with its weird and unique situations, such as dealing with their unexpected behaviours and emotions, people have been left baffled after witnessing one of Kat's cats becoming emotionally invested in one of the pumpkins she'd gotten for Halloween decorations. As Dave was experiencing his first autumnal season in Kat's home, he soon realised her obsession with decorating her home with pumpkins over the autumnal months. But he didn't seem to mind, as he seemed to love one pumpkin in particular even more than Kat did. "Four years ago, my cat Dave fell in love with a pumpkin," the text read at the start of the video, which showed Dave laying with to other cats on the floor, before sitting up to get closer to the pumpkin in question. Kat went on to explain that she always buys lots of pumpkins every autumn to decorate her home with. However, in 2021, which was the first autumn of Dave's life, she was left baffled after the orange cat became emotionally invested in one of the pumpkins. "But Dave, for reasons known only for Dave, chose to hyperfixate on just one particular pumpkin," Kat said, saying the green and yellow striped pumpkin was the only non-orange pumpkin they'd gotten soon became Dave's new obsession. She continued to say: "Dave began to spend all of this free time in the pumpkin's presence, usually while actually maintaining physical contact with it." Dave got so attached to his pumpkin, that he would even fend off his mother and sister if he felt like they were getting too close to the pumpkin. The comment section soon got filled with amazed cat fans, many of which were amazed at the cat's bond with his 'emotional support' pumpkin. "He recognises a fellow orange being," one user said, while someone else wrote: "Big fan of whatever's wrong with dave." "The pumpkin lore just keeps getting deeper! Dave the Cat always delivers the unexpected," a third user wrote. Someone else suggested: " Cats see yellow, green and blue the best. That's why he likes that one." According to vets at Catster , it's not uncommon or concerning for cats to start to collect or get attached to things, as they claim it's part of their nature. However, there are some cases when it should be addressed and prevented. Some cats may collect things due to resource guarding. Resource guarding is more common in multi-cat or multi-pet households. It occurs when one cat feels as though their resources are threatened. Consequently, they begin hoarding the sources. They are often seen getting aggressive when others come near their resources. If you are concerned about the health and well-being of your pet, seek veterinary advice for the best course of action.
