Woman attempts to end life in Gobichettipalayam after police book son for drunk driving

A woman attempted to end her life in Erode on Friday (September 26, 2025) night after the police booked her son for drunk driving. Traffic police intervened and later registered a case against her and a petrol outlet.

The police said they were conducting routine vehicle checks near the Anbu Bhavan signal when they stopped Chandru (24) of Kalingiyam. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and a case was registered against him.

Following the confiscation of the motorcycle, Chandru’s mother, Valarmathi (50), approached the traffic police, questioned the action, and claimed that the family could not pay the fine amount. She allegedly threatened to end her life if her son’s vehicle was not released.

Later, she made an attempt to end her life by purchasing fuel from a petrol outlet. The police thwarted the attempt.

Valarmathi’s husband, Ravi, was called to the scene, and the motorcycle was handed over to him. Gobichettipalayam police registered a case against Valarmathi and the petrol station in connection with the incident.
