A woman asking her service dog to find a chair while in a store learned very quickly that she’d better not ask in the kids’ section again. Scar, a blue merle Australian shepherd, was trained by his owner to be a medical alert and light mobility service dog. Medical alert dogs warn their owners about impending health crises, such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma and illnesses that cause dizziness or loss of consciousness, while mobility service dogs assist with tasks including balance, carrying objects, opening doors or pulling wheelchairs, according to an article from PetMD. During a store visit, the woman asked Scar to find her a chair, and technically, he did. Scar confidently led his owner to a chair with a smile on his face in the August 25 TikTok video posted to the account @scarthesportyservicedog. As a working dog, he was thrilled to be put to use. Thinking he nailed the assignment, Scar placed his front paw on the seat of a tiny, purple chair and looked back at his owner with a sense of pride. In his mind, he completed the task with ease and efficiency. But the chair he pointed to wasn’t going to work. It was a children’s toy, and the text on the video joked: “…only one cheek will fit on that.” Screenshots from an August 25, 2025, TikTok video of a service dog proudly directing his owner to a chair without realizing it was too small for her. “I was very surprised and laughed pretty hard,” the owner told Newsweek via TikTok. “He has not done that before.” The owner learned that next time she needs to be a little clearer with the instructions and not ask for a chair while walking around the children’s section again. Viewer Reactions The TikTok video reached more than 89,900 views and 13,700 likes as of Friday, with hundreds of comments from amused viewers who couldn’t get enough of Scar’s proud expression. “I love the direct eye contact with the ‘chair’ taps,” wrote one user, while another said: “At least we know that he knows what a chair is lol.” Someone else added: “Oh my God, he’s so proud that he found you a chair.” Others were impressed he could even identify the tiny object as a chair, to which the owner shared in the comment section that she was proud of him.
