Will Trent Season 4's Trailer Reveals A Big Change For The Protagonist

Will Trent season 4 is just around the corner, and although much is unknown about what's to come, a first look at the episodes reveals a huge development for the protagonist. The series (finally) returns in early 2026 following a lengthy hiatus. As such, viewers will soon get to learn what happens next following the shocking events of the Will Trent season 3 finale. Ramón Rodríguez's Will Trent character went through a lot in season 3, which is putting it lightly. For starters, he accidentally shot and killed a young teenager, forever traumatizing him. Then, Will unexpectedly came face-to-face with his birth father and learned that Angie was having a baby with another man. So, it's safe to say Will isn't in a great place. Will Is Sticking With Therapy In Will Trent Season 4 Margaret Cho Is Back Towards the end of Will Trent season 3, Will started seeing a therapist — Dr. Roach, played by the iconic Margaret Cho. However, he was quite hesitant about it at first, especially since her methods were, let's say, unorthodox. But given everything Will has been through as of late, therapy is much needed. Thankfully, he's sticking with it in season 4. It was unclear whether Will would be stubborn by either quitting therapy or continuing to see Dr. Roach but refusing to listen to her. After all the curveballs that life threw at him in season 3, it wouldn't be surprising if Will wanted to push his feelings down. He isn't exactly known for practicing self-care. Based on the Will Trent season 4 trailer (via TVLine), though, Will is seemingly dedicated to working on bettering his mental health. The teaser shows Will back with his therapist. The two are playing tennis, with Betty watching on the sidelines, while Dr. Roach asks him how he has been. Will says he's great, but she can tell he's lying. How Therapy Can Change The Course Of Will's Story In The ABC Series The Protagonist Needs Help Now More Than Ever Even if Will isn't being truthful about his feelings in the Will Trent season 4 trailer, the fact that he is receiving counseling from Dr. Roach is promising. The protagonist is recognizing that he needs help. However, that doesn't mean Will's stubbornness will magically disappear. Still, he's determined to get his life back on track, a stark change from season 3. Perhaps Will can start developing as a character in Will Trent season 4 as opposed to regressing. He has only faced hardships and setbacks since the show's beginning. While he'll undoubtedly encounter more obstacles in the upcoming episodes, Will's therapy should help him process his pain better. Hopefully, this means Will Trent will be kinder to him in season 4. Will Trent season 4 premieres on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 8 pm ET on ABC. Enjoy ScreenRant's primetime coverage?
