Gen V fans are eager to know if a third season of Prime Video’s popular spin-off from The Boys is in the works. The second outing premiered in September and wrapped up with a jaw-dropping finale this Wednesday (22nd October). Countless fans have already tuned in to see if Marie Moreau (played by Jaz Sinclair) was able to take down the sinister Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater). Plus, there were also surprise cameos from some The Boys favourites that will lead directly into the climactic showdown with Homelander (Antony Starr) in the mainline show’s fifth and final season. Now the latest chapter in the world of The Boys has come to an end, let’s take a look at everything confirmed so far about Gen V season three. At the time of writing, it’s unknown if Gen V will continue with a third season as Prime Video has not given the spin-off an official renewal. Things are also up in the air for the series as showrunner Michele Fazekas will be departing to helm the next season of Law and Order: SVU, becoming the first female showrunner for the NBC crime drama. Fazekas has also said in a recent interview with Variety that the goal of Gen V’s season two finale was primarily to set up the final season of The Boys rather than continuing the Godolkin University storyline. “Our task here was launching into The Boys, which doesn’t really mean that there wouldn’t be another season of Gen V,” she explained. “That’s what’s great about a college show - everyone’s always going to college! But our task was to launch us into the new season of The Boys.” Despite the lack of a renewal, The Boys mastermind Eric Kripke is remaining optimistic about Gen V’s future. He explained to The Wrap that Gen V’s continuation is essentially all down to how many Prime Video subscribers are tuning in. “We have a plan for Gen V season three, and we’re psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch season two to justify season three,” he revealed. “Now’s the time that they’re paying attention to the numbers. So don’t watch even a year from now. Turn on Prime and watch it now. “If enough people watch then we’ll get a season three.” Kripke also gave some insight into the future of the upcoming prequel spin-off that promises to tell the origin stories of classic supes Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). “Same applies to Vought Rising season one,” he said. “We have plans for a season two, if we can. They’ve been nothing but supportive, and they’re giving us our opportunities. “But it’s a business and we also have to deliver. So hopefully the audience shows up.” Unfortunately, the showrunner has also given a disappointing update on The Boys’ first ever spin-off, the animated anthology Diabolical. “I don’t think there’s going to be a season two of Diabolical,” he shared. “It’s not for lack of us pushing. I think ultimately the viewer numbers weren’t there to justify a second season, sadly.” The Boys and Gen V are available to stream on Prime Video.
