Will it snow in Mississippi on Thanksgiving? See long-range forecast

Love the picture-perfect scenes of families gathering for Thanksgiving, trundling through the snow and warming up by the fire together? That's not for us. We live in the South, where fall weather can be downright balmy, if not tropical. The almanac calls for "a patchwork" of weather with sun in the East and rain furthest West. Snow could affect travel in some northern areas. And repercussions from the government shutdown could continue to snarl travel through the holiday season. And the Atlantic hurricane season won't be over until Nov. 30. That leaves chances of severe weather or heavy rain tied to tropical systems on the table all the way through Black Friday and into Cyber Week. Here's what we know about the Old Farmer's Almanac and Accuweather forecasts for Thanksgiving and how they compare. Old Farmer's Almanac predicts warm Thanksgiving for Mississippi, Deep South The Old Farmer's Almanac divides the United States into 18 distinct weather regions for unique forecasts. Some states are split and can fall into two or more regions. California, for example, is in 14, 15, and 16. All of Mississippi falls into Region 8, the Deep South. It also includes Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and part of Georgia. The Deep South will be "Warmer than average with sunshine to spare. Whether you’re deep-frying the bird outdoors or hitting the road to visit family, travel looks easy and skies stay clear across the region," according to Old Farmer's Almanac. See extended forecast for the Deep South Check out the almanac's extended forecast for the Jackson area, the Deep South through Christmas and New Year's Eve. Nov. 11-14: Sunny, chilly Nov. 15-20: Rainy periods, mixed with snow north; chilly Nov. 21-30: Sunny, warmer Dec 1-3: Rainy, warm Dec. 4-15: Sunny; mild, then turning chilly Dec 16-20: Showers, then sunny; cold Dec 21-31: Sunny, then showers; mild, then turning chilly Mississippi fall foliage forecast: When is the best time to (finally) see the leaves change colors? What is the AccuWeather Thanksgiving Day forecast? Mississippi has had some cold nights over the past week, but it's warming up quickly. By the weekend, some areas can expect highs in the 70s and low-80s. Overnight lows will stay in the 50s and 60s. By Thanksgiving week, temperatures will stay in the 50s and 60s, and the current outlook is dry but sometimes cloudy. The holiday calls for plenty of sun across the state in the advance forecast. Jackson: 63°/43° Hattiesburg: 65°/44° Starkville: 60°/40° Gulfport: 66°/51° Southaven: 57°/40° The state most often sets one-day snowfall records from December through March, so November snow isn't impossible, but it is very unlikely. When is Thanksgiving 2025? Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November. In 2025, that's Nov. 27.
