CLEMSON — Clemson might have its No. 1 quarterback behind center versus Duke. Cade Klubnik, who is recovering from a sprained ankle, was listed as probable for a Nov. 1 contest with the Blue Devils in the conference’s Thursday availability report. The senior passer was knocked out late in an Oct. 11 road win at Boston College. Klubnik was technically a game-time decision going into the SMU game on Oct. 18, but chances were slim he’d play. He had a noticeable limp as the Tigers strolled into Memorial Stadium, and Klubnik warmed up for only five minutes pregame before he came back onto the field in street clothes. In an interview with Yahoo Sports during the bye week, Klubnik said he hoped to be back “soon.” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has been predictably vague in updating his quarterback’s status. When asked if Klubnik practiced on Oct. 27, Swinney simply said “He did.” When he was asked if Klubnik was a full or limited participated, Swinney said the quarterback did “everything we asked him to do.” “He’s getting better each day. I’m proud of him,” Swinney said after an Oct. 29 practice. “He’s had a good week.” Swinney added the Tigers as a team had a “ton of focus, a ton of energy” at practice this week as they hope to respond to a 35-24 loss to SMU, which was the program’s fifth straight loss to power conference opponents at home. One of the few bright spots versus the Mustangs was backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina, who overcame a shaky first half to throw for 317 yards and three touchdowns.
