TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple Maps is expected to begin displaying advertisements starting in 2026 as part of the company’s plan to expand its advertising business within the iOS ecosystem.According to a report by TechCrunch on Sunday, October 26, 2026, Apple aims to differentiate itself from competitors by enhancing its interface and leveraging AI algorithms to deliver more relevant search results for users.Technology journalist Mark Gurman reported that users may begin seeing ads on Apple Maps as early as next year. Similar to Google Maps, the company plans to allow restaurants and local businesses to pay for promoted placements in search results.Apple already runs ads on its App Store, and the move to introduce ads on Maps is seen as an extension of its growing advertising strategy across native apps.Since its launch, Apple Maps has competed with Google Maps, which debuted in 2007. Unlike Google’s feature-heavy interface, Apple Maps takes a simpler, more minimalist approach, offering a clean display while retaining essential functions such as recent search history and saved locations.Meanwhile, Google continues to expand its reach. In July 2025, Google Maps became available on Garmin smartwatches via the Connect IQ Store, compatible with select models including the Venu, Forerunner, Vivoactive, and Fenix series. While Google Maps on Wear OS can operate independently of a phone and offers more advanced features, the Garmin version provides a streamlined interface with basic turn-by-turn navigation—similar to how Apple Maps functions on the Apple Watch.Editor’s Choice: US Uses AI to Forecast Storm Surges: How It WorksClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
