Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, Alex Otti of Abia State and others were given awards for good governance, in Abuja, yesterday.
The publisher and convener, Good Governance African International Network, Dr. Silvester Omose in the one – Day sensitization and award giving program, with the theme: “Good Governance, the Path Way to National Development” said Nigeria needs to be rebuilt.
He emphasized that that Nigeria has the potential to be a better place, if the leaders focus on providing basic facilities for the citizens.
Omose highlighted the need for leaders to look inward and identify the needs of the people, especially the youths. pointing out that many young Nigerians are forced to seek greener pastures outside the country due to lack of opportunities in the country.
He said “By creating an enabling environment for the citizens, Nigeria can flourish and become one of the best countries in the world. One of the major challenges facing Nigeria is the lack of adequate electricity, which hinders the potential of many talented youths.”
Omose urged the federal government to address the issues of hardship in the country and provide affordable energy solutions for the citizens.
Also, the key note speaker, pastor, Engr. Gabriel Omolaolu, stressed on the need for collective responsibilities to rebuilding Nigeria, emphasizing the need to address corruption, insecurity, disunity and economic instability in the country.
We call for conscious effort by citizens and leaders to create a stable and progressive society. The challenges facing Nigeria, including religious crisis, ethnic division, corruption and economic instability is enormous, something needs to be done for good governance to thrive.
Similarly, The founder and chairman of the governing Council, Philomath university, Dr.Colins Aimuan emphasized that governance should be structured in ways that the citizens would understand the system of practice with clear principles, in order to achieve the needed economic development in the country.
“When citizens actively participate in democracy and respect institutions. Transparency and inclusiveness in governance will become a norm in the socieety.” Aimuan said
