Wicked and Bridgerton star admits being kicked out of university for big mistake

British TV and film star Jonathan Bailey has admitted he was kicked out of university for making a major mistake. The 37-year-old says he signed up for nine online higher education courses but failed to complete most of them, so he was expelled. Oxfordshire-born Jonathan, whose credits include the Wicked movie, Netflix hit Bridgerton and starring alongside Scarlett Johansson in summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, says he registered for numerous courses through the Open University - a distance learning programme. He told PEOPLE: "I didn't finish Open University, where you study from home. I signed up for about nine different courses, not realising if you didn't finish them, you get expelled." READ MORE: "So I didn't finish my volcanoes and tsunamis course, or my Leonardo da Vinci course. I did finish my music course, but just at that point, I got expelled. Hopefully that'll be something I can go back to." When questioned whether he genuinely plans to return to his studies, he responded: "I do, yeah. I want to know ... what happens with volcanoes." The interview formed part of Jonathan's cover feature following his selection as PEOPLE magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2025. Jonathan discussed his accolade during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, quipping to the presenter: "It's an honour of a lifetime. And I want to say, Jimmy, thank you so much for turning it down so I could be here." The actor went on to reveal it is a huge change from how he started the year on stage in London. He said: "At the beginning of the year I was doing Shakespeare's Richard II - for those of you who don't know, it's not a comedy ... "[I was] in the zone [when I got the news]. "So you go slightly mad, and the only thing madder than doing Richard II is being invited into this. And also in 2025, I'm sort of thrilled that People Magazine has invited someone to bestow this honour on someone who can really cherish the value of a sexy man." When asked if he thinks people will treat him differently now, Jonathan quipped: "I f****** hope so!".
