Why i hugged my coach after scoring first goal for new club – Nigerian ball-playing defender opens up
A young Nigerian defender opens up on the emotional reason he ran straight to his coach after scoring his first goal, revealing the bond behind the celebration.
Former Enyimba captain Somiari Alalibo has opened up on the emotional reason behind his celebration after scoring his first goal for new club and Enyimba’s city rivals Abia Warriors.
The young Nigerian defender was the hero as Abia Warriors secured a vital 1-0 win over Katsina United in Umuahia on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came six minutes into the second half when Alalibo rifled in a brilliant effort following a fantastic control inside the box.
Alalibo’s celebration caught attention as he immediately ran straight into the arms of his coach, Imama Amapakabo, the former Rangers International and NPFL winner.
The defender revealed in an exclusive chat with Pulse Sports Nigeria the strong bond he shares with Amapakabo.
“The coach is a correct guy,” Alalibo said. “He’s an individual I have always liked from the onset,” he added, explaining that the hug was an expression of respect and gratitude for the coach’s support.
The goal proved decisive in sealing Abia Warriors’ second win of the season from four matches, lifting them to 10th place with six points.
The win also marked a fresh start for Alalibo, who left Enyimba on a free transfer during the summer to join their city rivals.
Alalibo’s strike and emotional celebration show the close-knit connection between player and coach that motivates performances on the pitch.
As Abia Warriors look to build momentum, the former Enyimba skipper is already making his mark in the battle for NPFL success.
Up next for the defender and his fellow Warriors is the Southeast derby against his coach’s former club, Enugu Rangers.
