Why Greta Lee Left The Morning Show

Greta Lee exited the excellent AppleTV drama The Morning Show, and there's an interesting reason why. Besides Lee's many amazing movie roles, she joined the series in season 2 as Stella Bak, who quickly proved herself to be as determined and clever as the other characters. As the head of the news area of UBA, which is now called UBN, Stella's most memorable plotline is her focus on bringing AI to the company. Since she became such a big part of The Morning Show cast, we were surprised to hear Lee was leaving, and there's a compelling and logical explanation. Greta Lee Left The Morning Show Due To Scheduling Conflicts In October 2025, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Greta Lee was leaving The Morning Show because of her acting schedule. She explained, "it just got harder and harder, scheduling-wise, to be there, and to be able to hand over my resources and time to keep being on the show." Lee mentioned to THR that she considered the series "like family" and that she experienced a lot of life during her time as Stella, from becoming a mother to relocating to Los Angeles from New York City. The actress shared in the same interview that she had been cast in several projects including the Netflix movie A House of Dynamite, Late Fame, and the box office disappointment Tron: Ares, and she let The Morning Show writers know when she was available to film the series. Lee had a busy four years, and while portraying Stella, she appeared in many movies, including Past Lives in 2023. That same year, she voiced Bella in Strays and Lyla in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. What Happened To Greta Lee's Stella In The Morning Show Season 4 Thankfully, The Morning Show continued its strong character work with the end of Greta Lee's character Stella's arc in season 4. At the beginning of the season, her secret romance with Celine Dumont's (Marion Cotillard) husband Miles (Aaron Pierre) was a big plotline. This juicy storyline gives Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) some interesting pull over her. This is a great example of the constant power dynamics at play in the series and its complex characters. It's so much fun watching the characters messing with each other and working at such a fast-paced place. In The Morning Show, season 4, episode 6, "If Then," Stella's departure is left somewhat vague, which may have disappointed some. However, it's also possible to say that it works well with her intelligent character. After Celine tells Stella to share the AI news technology she's been working on, the AI robot tells everyone at the event that Stella and Miles were together. After Miles's decision to stay with his wife, we see Stella on a plane, heading toward the next part of her life. We don't know what she's going to do, but we want to believe she's happy. As she told THR, Lee thinks Stella is going to relax a bit and then head back to work: "She’ll go to the tiki bar and maybe last a few weeks. It’s so ingrained in her to be a fighter and a worker." What Greta Lee Has Said About Leaving The Morning Show Greta Lee told Variety (via ScreenRant) that "this is the end for her, as far as I know." Although at the time of this writing, Lee isn't coming back to the show, the actress did say that she would be open to it if Stella had a compelling storyline. She said if Stella could be "roughed up a little bit by real-world living" and "feed her soul", that could lead to a cool new professional plotline for the character. Given Stella's work with AI in The Morning Show season 4, that's easy to imagine. It's definitely a shame not to see Lee playing Stella on The Morning Show now, and many of us likely expected to see her for as long as the popular drama continues.
