Isaac is open to returning for the right opportunity despite past reluctance. Oscar Isaac future with Star Wars apparently depends on his feelings toward Disney. After he was asked recently about the possibility of him reprising his role as Poe Dameron in a future Star Wars film, Oscar made it clear that he would be weighing that decision based on Disney’s ethics as a company. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 Oscar Isaac Said He Was ‘Not So Open’ to Working with Disney After ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Suspension In a new feature story with GQ magazine, Isaac was asked what it would take for him to return to the Star Wars franchise after starring in three films between 2015 and 2019. The interview happened to take place just two days after ABC, a Disney-owned network, pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air due to comments the late-night host made about the shooting death of right-wing podcaster, Charlie Kirk. As a result, Isaac, 46, answered the question by stating, “I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” Oops! We’re unable to load this content right now. At the time of the interview, Isaac said if Disney were to not “succumb to fascism,” or in other words, stand up against pressure from the FCC, then he would be “open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.” Oscar Isaac Previously Said Star Wars Films Weren’t in His Plan as an Actor Aside from his differences with Disney, Isaac seems to have changed his tune on returning for another Star Wars project, despite stating in 2020 that the sci-fi films were “not really what [he] set out to do” as an actor. “What I set out to do was to make handmade movies, and to work with people that inspire me,” Isaac said at the time. He also quipped that he would “probably” not return to Star Wars unless “I need another house or something.” (In his new interview with GQ, Isaac admitted his 2020 comment was not his most “likable” quote.) But the Frankenstein actor told Variety back in August that he could potentially see himself returning to Star Wars, as long as the right opportunity presented itself. “Yeah, I’d be a Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that,” said Isaac, who has already appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
