BLACKSBURG — The window for Virginia Tech football players to enter the transfer portal opened on Sept. 15. An NCAA rule allows players to begin entering the transfer portal the day after the head coach leaves the school and remains open for 30 days.
The ability to enter the portal will close on Oct. 14. Since Pry was fired three games into the season, players can enter the transfer portal and not play for the remainder of the season to preserve their year of eligibility.
Here’s a tracker to keep up with players who are electing to enter the transfer portal:
Tucker Holloway, WR/PR (Sept. 25): Holloway posted on social media that he is entering the transfer portal. Holloway, who claimed a medical redshirt in 2024, intends on redshirting this season to have two seasons of eligibility remaining. The redshirt junior appeared in four games this season and had five receptions for 82 yards. He was limited in punt return opportunities with teams electing to kick away from him, and he netted 27 yards on five returns. Holloway set a program record for single-game punt return yardage with 188 yards against Georgia Tech in 2022, and that included a 90-yard punt return touchdown. He finishes his time with the Hokies with 149 yards on 13 receptions, and he scored on a 33-yard reserve at Virginia in 2023. Holloway also averaged 12.9 yards on 20 punt returns in 2023.
Dante Lovett, CB (Sept. 15): Lovett’s agent told On3 Sports that Lovett is entering the transfer portal, and Lovett reposted the report on social media. Lovett appeared in all 29 games since his freshman season in 2023 through the first three games of this season. He hasn’t redshirted, so entering the transfer portal now allows him to maintain a year of eligibility and have two years of eligibility left. Lovett started two games as a sophomore and entered this season projected as a starter at one of the cornerback positions. Transfers Isaiah Brown-Murray and Caleb Brown started the first two games, and Brown-Murray and Thomas Williams started in Week 3 against Old Dominion. Lovett was the fifth cornerback in the rotation behind Brown-Murray, Thomas and Krystian Williams and Brown. Lovett recorded 36 tackles (22 solo), one interception, seven pass breakups, 0.5 tackle for a loss and one fumble recovery.
