The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) has criticized the Mahama-led administration for what it describes as misplaced priorities in the 2025 budget, accusing the government of neglecting nurses and junior doctors despite allocating huge sums to the Presidency.
In a statement, IERPP revealed that “the NDC government allotted a whopping Ghc3.82 billion to the Presidency (Office of Government Machinery) in the 2025 budget. An increase of about 105% compared to the Ghc1.86 billion same time in 2024 under the NPP!”
The institute argued that the figures undermine the government’s claim that health professionals cannot be paid because they were not captured in the 2025 budget. “From the above figures, it will therefore be disingenuous for anyone, including the government, to say that nurses can not be paid because they were not factored into the 2025 budget,” IERPP stated.
IERPP further contended that the allocations expose the real priorities of the current administration, stressing that adequate resources exist to settle the arrears of health workers who have been left frustrated after months without payment. According to the institute, “the figures only show the priorities and interest of the Mahama-led government! There’s money at the treasury! Pay the nurses and junior doctors!”
