Who Insuring Who?

Who Insuring Who? Nov 09, 2025 Dem Boys Seh, Features / Columnists (Kaieteur News) – If it wasn’t so tragic, it woulda been comedy gold. Imagine dis: a whole government detaining a vehicle belonging to de same Mohameds who dem seh nobody must do business with—because allegedly, de vehicle ain’t had insurance! If dat ain’t irony, dem boys don’t know what is. Now, leh we get dis straight. De same government that warn “consequences” fuh anybody doing business with de Mohameds, now suddenly want to enforce de law pon dem? Like de government doing business wid itself? It sound like a man banning heself from talking to he own reflection. Dem boys seh it get more puzzling. De US Embassy done come out and clear up de confusion: under dem OFAC sanctions, it’s American businesses that can’t do business with de Mohammeds—not Guyanese ones. And wait nah—who tell de Vice President dat de Mohameds’ vehicle had no insurance? Did he personally call de insurance companies? That information cannot be given out to non-interested parties. Or maybe he got a hotline straight to de insurance database. Either way, de man seem to know more bout dem people vehicles than bout what going on at de NDIA. Dem boys seh it raise a next question: do de vehicles dat he driving got insurance? Because everybody and dem cousin know dat most government vehicles in Guyana ain’t got none. You knock one, and all you getting is a shrug and a promise from de mechanic next door. So we punishing private citizens for allegedly lacking insurance, while government rides around like kings in uninsured chariots. If dat ain’t comedy, it’s tragedy wid a twist of farce. Dem boys seh Guyana don’t need Netflix—de daily news does provide all de drama, suspense, and slapstick we could ever want. But one ting’s fuh sure: de question of “who insuring who” still hanging in de air, and like most tings in dis country, nobody sure who paying de premium and who paying de price for not paying premiums. Dem Boys Seh, Mohameds, NDIA, OFAC sanctions
