The World Health Organization (WHO) called for the permanent opening of medical corridors to allow people to leave Gaza Strip, noting that this could “change the situation” for 15,000 injured individuals who need treatment outside the devastated Palestinian territory. Rick Biberkorn, WHO representative in the Palestinian territories, urged during a press conference held in Geneva, that all crossings be opened—not only for the delivery of humanitarian aid, but also for medical evacuations. He added that two medical evacuations are scheduled for next week, “but we want to make this a daily process” because, at the current pace, transporting 15,000 people needing care outside Gaza, including 4,000 children, would take ten years. The WHO reports that more than 700 people have died while waiting to be evacuated from Gaza for medical treatment.
