White Stuff's velvet coat looks so 'luxurious' shoppers are wearing it to winter weddings

Summer wedding season may be over, but autumn and winter ceremonies are set to be in full swing. Instead of flowy dresses and lightweight shawls to pop over bare shoulders, fashion fans will no doubt be opting for warmer outer layers instead to stay protected from the elements. Throwing on any old puffer jacket or windbreaker isn’t exactly the most appropriate at a loved one’s nuptials, which is why shoppers are snapping up White Stuff’s Karla Velvet Coat in dark plum instead. Coming in at £140, it’s not the cheapest jacket on the market, but it’s ideal for wearing to any formal events in cooler weather. Crafted from 98% cotton with elastane for added stretch, the Karla Velvet Coat is guaranteed to be a go-to choice over the next few weeks and months. The jacket, which is soft to to the touch, has a longer length, designed to fall to the mid-thigh, as well as a funnel neckline. Shoppers can pick it up in sizes six to 24 in both petite and regular lengths. If you like the silhouette but aren’t keen on the colour, not to worry. The Karla Velvet Coat is also available in six other colours including black, chartreuse, and dusky rose. If there’s more room in your budget, Monsoon’s Viv Velvet Trim Military Coat is available for £200. Complete with a velvet-accented collar, pockets and buttons, this military-inspired coat will have you marching round town in style. Alternatively, a more affordable option is available at Next, with the Berry Red Quilted Velvet Jacket available for £52. Cut in a fitted, boxy silhouette, the jacket has been crafted from a quilted padded velvet fabric with a military-inspired collar. Back at White Stuff, the Karla Velvet Coat boasts an overall star-rating of 4.3 out of five based on 630 reviews. One satisfied shopper said: “Perfect smart casual winter coat. Can be dressed up or down to wear with jeans or dresses.” A second wrote: “Really stylish coat that has got many compliments, I now have in the navy blue and maroon. Lovely to wear and I can get a thick cardigan underneath in the winter if need be.” “I absolutely love this coat,” somebody else said. “The fabric is lightweight and soft with a lovely lining. The style is simple and very flattering. “It’s the sort of coat you could wear for a dressy evening out or with casual jeans in the day. I chose the pink colour and so pleased I did as it’s a lovely shade of dusky deep rose pink. All in all this is a brilliant edition to my wardrobe.” Among the not so glowing reviews, one shopper gave the Karla Velvet Coat a three-star review because it was ‘too big’. It reads: “Lovely coat just too big. I loved the fabric and the colour as I wanted to get away from black but it was sadly too big and no size available to downsize too.” But another loved their latest White Stuff purchase , adding: “This coat is smart and casual at the same time. I love the mixture of quilting and fabric. “Roomy but smart pockets and a good-looking stand-up collar to keep the warmth in. I am very slim, I’m 5ft 4ins and the size 8 is perfect. Warm enough for cold weather and room for a jumper underneath if it’s very chilly.”
