Where to catch a spooky outdoor movie while you eat in WNY

A handful of local businesses are serving dinner − from burgers to frog legs − in front of an outdoor movie screen playing spooky flicks this fall.
Quenelle, a French restaurant that opened late last year in the former Rue Franklin, is hosting an outdoor movie series throughout October in its backyard garden, 341 Franklin St. The lineup includes “The Craft” Oct. 6, the Buffalo Bills vs. Atlantic Falcons game Oct. 13, “Hocus Pocus” Oct. 20 and “The Shining” Oct. 27. Movies at sundown.
The fall edition of the Buffalo Holiday Market, the “Falliday Market,” a craft and food market on the lawn outside the Richardson Olmsted complex (444 Forest Ave.), is playing outdoor movies every Friday throughout October. The lineup includes “Halloweentown” Oct. 3, “The Addams Family” Oct. 10, “Hocus Pocus” Oct. 17 and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Oct. 24. Movies begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Food and drinks are available from on-site vendors.
Mutual Riverfront Park is projecting movies onto a grain silo right outside Elevator Alley Kayak at 16 Hamburg St. “The Natural,” which was filmed in Buffalo and starred the late Robert Redford, played last week. Up next is “The Sandlot” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3. (The rain date is 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4.) Hamburg and South Streets are closed to traffic for the movie showing. Admission is free. No outside food and drinks are allowed. Burgers, hot dogs, popcorn and chips are available for sale. Cash-only.
Lastly, keep an eye on Duende at Silo City’s (85 Silo City Row) social media and email newsletter for an announcement that it will project the Buffalo Bills game onto a grain silo, which it occasionally does during the fall.
