More about At 25:00, in Akasaka manga & season 1
At 25:00, in Akasaka’s original manga, licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment, introduces Yuki Shirasaki as an up-and-coming actor cast opposite his former schoolmate, now superstar Asami Hayama. Eager to prepare, Shirasaki heads to a gay bar to study his character, only to bump into Hayama.
The night changes when Hayama suggests they strike a “friends with benefits” arrangement, complicating both their careers and personal lives. Hiroko Natsuno’s manga began in November 2017 inside Gōgai On BLUE, a boys’ love magazine issued every two months. By April 2018, it shifted to the main On BLUE magazine.
Though the initial storyline wrapped in October 2018, a side tale started in December of the same year and has been released irregularly since. Shodensha put out the fourth compiled book in December 2022. In 2023, the manga secured Best Series at the Chil Chil BL Awards.
The TV version of At 25:00, in Akasaka follows Shirasaki, a struggling theater actor who lands a part in a gay drama. His co-star turns out to be Hayama, his old university clubmate who has since become a popular name. Season 1 earlier aired on TV Tokyo between April 19 and June 21, 2024, under the channel’s MokuDra 24 slot. The Japanese series ranked at the top on the platform throughout its broadcast.
While seeking inspiration, Shirasaki runs into Hayama at a gay hangout. A kiss between the two changes the dynamic and leaves Shirasaki caught between personal emotions and work demands. Season 1 was overseen by Takahiro Horie and Ryō Kawasaki.
Notably, GagaOOLala and TV Tokyo, a Japanese television network, came together as production partners to create the BL drama At 25:00, in Akasaka. This marks the first official collaboration between the two companies on producing a BL series.
