The private life of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor recently resurfaced in the media spotlight amid the ongoing inheritance dispute over her late husband Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate. Sunjay Kapur, the industrialist who passed away from a heart attack during a polo match in England on June 12, 2025, left behind a sprawling fortune. The legal battle intensified when Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, approached the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share of their father’s assets, claiming that their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur allegedly attempted to manipulate Sunjay’s will.
Karisma Kapoor Opens Up About Her Secret Wedding
Amid renewed interest in the family saga, old interviews with Karisma Kapoor have gained attention. In a conversation with journalist Subhash K. Jha, she reflected on her marriage to Sunjay Kapur and why it was kept under wraps. Karisma revealed, “Yes. I had to keep it under wraps until all of us were sure of what we wanted to do. Sunjay and my family have known each other for many, many years. We’ve been childhood friends. Interestingly, my mum became friends with his mum when she was 18. They’ve remained friends since then.”
She went on to describe the closeness of their families and how her bond with Sunjay evolved naturally from childhood into love. “All of us kids from both homes grew up together. His sisters are very close to me. We were at school together. So it was almost like love was arranged into a marriage (laughs),” she said, emphasizing how destiny eventually brought them together after years of friendship.
The Ongoing Legal Battle Over Sunjay Kapur’s Estate
While Karisma spoke about love and family, the legal drama surrounding the late industrialist’s estate continues. Her children Samaira and Kiaan have filed a case in the Delhi High Court alleging that Priya Sachdev Kapur tried to forge Sunjay’s will to claim full control of assets worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. The suit seeks a fair partition of the estate, which includes Sunjay’s business empire, Sona Comstar, among other holdings.
Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor married in 2003, welcoming daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. The couple parted ways amicably in 2014, with their divorce finalised by 2016. Now, as the court hears the case, the outcome will determine not only the division of Sunjay Kapur’s vast fortune but also the future of his legacy in Indian industry.
