What we learned from Week 5 of the Central Virginia high school season

While a significant amount of local teams had bye weeks, several Central Virginia high school football programs found the win column in Week 5.
Louisa, STAB stay undefeated
Louisa County improved to 4-0 with a 56-15 victory over Fluvanna County on Friday.
The Lions opened the scoring from the defensive side with a Lavartrell Creasy 46-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
The Flucos went on an 18-play, 10-minute drive on the ensuing possession, but it ended via turnover on downs. Louisa County followed that with a nine-play, 73-yard touchdown drive concluding on a one-yard Hiter rush that made it 14-0.
The Lions recovered a fumble at Fluvanna County’s 33-yard line soon after, and they immediately scored again on a Carter catch-and-run.
On the next play from scrimmage, Carter hauled in an interception and returned it to the Flucos’ 4-yard line. Hiter then ran the next snap into the end zone to make it 28-0.
Carter scored another touchdown just before halftime on a 49-yard catch-and-run. The second half featured scores from the Lions’ Creasy, Jaheim Jackson and Colt Hayden, as well as Fluvanna County’s Christopher Johnson and Kevin Jordan.
Louisa County will next play Charlottesville this Friday, while the Flucos will face Western Albemarle.
St. Anne’s-Belfield defeated Roanoke Catholic, 27-0, on Friday. Jonah Brent scored their first touchdown of the evening.
The Saints are now 5-0 and have eclipsed their 2024 win total.
Albemarle, Covenant notch first wins
The Patriots defeated Charlottesville, 40-20, on Thursday.
Albemarle opened the scoring with a 48-yard touchdown run, but the Black Knights answered with a three-yard rushing touchdown.
The Patriots continued to have explosive scoring plays throughout the evening, putting together a 35-yard pass play into the end zone and a 90-yard rushing touchdown.
Albemarle will next play Goochland this Friday, while Charlottesville will face Louisa County.
Covenant defeated Virginia Episcopal, 10-7, on Saturday.
The game was a rematch of the 2024 VISFL Division I state championship, which the Eagles won, 20-14.
Saturday marked Covenant’s first win in 11-man football since 2017.
The Eagles will next play Fredericksburg Christian on Friday.
Woodberry, Orange take victories
The Tigers defeated Georgetown Prep, 16-10, on Friday.
J.R. Williams scored a rushing touchdown and delivered a touchdown pass to Hudson Zell. Cade Ellis also hauled in an interception.
Woodberry Forest will next play St. Christopher’s on Oct. 10.
Orange County earned a 25-22 win over Goochland on Friday.
The Bulldogs got out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Fighting Hornets responded with 22 unanswered points, taking the lead on a Hayden Dello touchdown.
After Goochland tied it, Orange County marched down the field to set up for a field goal. Joseph Dodson nailed the attempt with 0.2 seconds remaining to guide the Fighting Hornets to a victory.
Orange County will next play Monticello this Friday.
