If you haven’t heard, a potential 2028 presidential run for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a real possibility.
According to Axios, the 35-year-old’s team is reportedly positioning her to either run for president in 2028 or the U.S. Senate.
CNN recently broke down a poll for early choices for a democratic presidential nominee in 2028, which found that AOC is currently polling at 12% behind Gov. Gavin Newsom, which is 10% more than what Bernie Sanders was polling in comparison to Hillary Clinton in 2014.
We decided to scour Reddit and X to find out how people really feel about a potential AOC presidential run in 2028. Here’s what 15 people had to say:

1. “This wasn’t feasible until recently. Trump is creating the conditions for president AOC.”

2. “People say America won’t vote for a woman, but we have yet to run a truly charismatic woman, which I believe AOC is. She’s funny, whip-smart, and off-the-cuff.”
3. “Getting AOC in the Senate would lock her into 6 year terms instead of 2 year terms. This would let her eventually run for president and remain in Congress if she didn’t get the nomination / election. Given her age, I really think she should start with the Senate in 2028 and then run presidential campaigns in 2032 or 2036.”

4. “She’s not a serious contender for President. I would vote for her. I would volunteer for her campaign. But due mostly to a combination of misogyny, racism, and the fact that she looks and sounds even younger than she actually is would be gigantic obstacles to overcome.”
—Tapprunner
5. “To be honest, I think she’s more divisive? We need to target swing voters, and lots of them view AOC as a nutcase extremist because the media often paints her as one, and many swing voters can’t be fucked to do research. Someone more mellow is more likely to do the trick.”
—BigTension5
6. “[AOC] pulled larger crowds than Hillary or Kamala after an election, she’s a winner. Dems need to run a winner and not the same liberal corporate clown, who keeps making them lose.”
7. “I don’t think Americans will ever elect a woman. Especially a democrat. Just a guess. They would sooner elect a republican woman, even though also not very likely. If you want to get a democrat as president, it would be better to go for a male presidential candidate and male VP.”

8. “Interestingly, gender will probably be the least of AOC’s problems by 2028. We’re talking about 3 more years of fascism and corruption. By the time 2028 rolls around — this is assuming we’ve had free and fair elections in 2026 — we will be voting for the shreds of whatever is left of the USA. I guarantee the question will be, who can restore our former glory and/or have the integrity and trust to run a post-Trump truth commission. The job is going to be very specific and nearly impossible — AOC’s gender will probably be a fifth-order concern by that point.”

9. “I am a straight white man, a Democratic political consultant, and to the best of my ability, an ally to those whose lives I simply do not have the lived experience to understand. This would be a disaster for all of us. I don’t think we can both acknowledge how oppressed non-straight cis white men are in our country while also claiming that it has no impact on the outcome of elections. I’d kill for an AOC presidency. But it’s not happening, and nominating her would very likely be handing over a winnable election.”

10. “Please don’t run for president…not now. Please. We have only a gasping breath left to get us to the surface and the lifesaving oxygen. We have to shed everything we’d like to be clothed in and strip down to sheer energy and determination. Get back to safe ground first, then put our progressive adornments back on.”
—Imaginary-Crazy1981
11. “I’m not saying she’s a lock, but she’s fairly popular nationally despite years of Republican attempts to paint her as a far-left radical, and she’s good on TV. If she can get the nomination in a competitive primary, I think she’d have a solid chance.”
12. “I like her…BUT….she needs to stay away from the presidential race. I’m a Democrat and I strongly believe another Democrat will not be elected for a long time. The party needs to wake up. Until they get a candidate that is closer to the middle, we will be crushed. Far left is turning too many in the left to turn right.”
—mcmillzy
13. “I’d vote for her, but she won’t be taking any voters away from conservatives in my opinion. I think people are underestimating how effective Fox and Newsmax are at state propaganda. When my conservative family members hear the words Biden, Kamala, Waltz, AOC, Buttigieg, Omar, and Hunter, they get extremely triggered with hate for no reason. It’s scary.”
—XXmrhanxx
14. “It’s not really a knock on AOC, it’s just an assessment of America. There were other factors on both candidates, but I am convinced that if they had the exact same history/experience/credentials but were men that they would have won. It’s not even people consciously thinking ‘I’m not voting for a girl’ (though some do), it’s that as women, it is just way more important that we be perfect/charismatic/likable/ to succeed.”
15. “I would love AOC as a president. I think I’m just burned by the last elections and worried about the consequences of what will happen if we get 4 more years of authoritarianism due to misogynistic voters.”
