What Mark Hamill Said About Ryan Gosling Joining the ‘Star Wars'

Mark Hamill shared his thoughts about Ryan Gosling joining the Star Wars franchise. People reported that Hamill addressed Gosling’s upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, which has a May 2027 release date, while speaking to the publication on October 29 during the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy and its sequel films, said he’s “been a fan of” Gosling. The actor also said he was particularly amused by Gosling’s April 2024 Saturday Night Live appearance, wherein he played the Beavis and Butt-Head character Beavis “I became a super fan when he played Beavis on Saturday Night Live,” said Hamill to People. He also said he didn’t have advice for those involved with Star Wars: Starfighter, including Gosling. “No, none of those people need advice from me. They’re doing so well. I had my time. I’m going to ask for advice from them,” said Hamill during the interview. Hayden Christensen Discussed Ryan Gosling’s New ‘Star Wars’ Role Hamill isn’t the only Star Wars actor to give their opinion about Gosling joining the beloved franchise. Hayden Christensen, who plays Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker, AKA Darth Vader, was asked if he had any advice for Gosling amid his Star Wars journey in an April 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight during the 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. “I don’t think he needs any advice. He’s awesome. I got to have dinner with him last night. And I know he’s really excited to to now be in the Star Wars family. And I’m excited for his film. I think it’s going to be really great,” said Christensen, who began starring as Anakin in 2002’s Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Ryan Gosling Expressed His Excitement About Joining ‘Star Wars’ Gosling expressed his excitement to star in a Star Wars film during a 2025 Star Wars Celebration panel, alongside the Star Wars: Starfighter director, Shawn Levy. Gosling shared that he has been a fan of Star Wars, which he described as being a cultural phenomenon since the 1977 premiere of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. “I think it framed my idea of what a movie even was,” said Gosling while on the April 2025 panel. He also said that the script for Star Wars: Starfighter is “just so good.” “The story has so much adventure, so much heart and original characters. It’s an opportunity to shine a light into a side of the universe that we may not have seen,” said Gosling. People magazine reported that Levy teased what fans can expect from his upcoming Star Wars film during the April 2025 Star Wars Celebration. “[It’s] not a prequel, not a sequel, just gives us the Star Wars DNA that we love but with an adventure that’s all new. The movie is a new adventure. It’s new characters. It takes place in a new period of time after the Battle of Exegoll, after Episode 9,” said the director, per People.
