What happened to EXO's Chen? K-pop vocalist opens up on Bubble about health to fans amid legal battles

EXO's Chen shared an update on his current mental state amid legal battles and comeback conflict. Chen and the other two members of EXO-CBX, Baekyun and Xiumin, have been in a legal dispute with SM Entertainment since 2023, and mediation has reportedly been unsuccessful.Following recent news, including that EXO-CBX won't be participating in the K-pop group's upcoming reunion and album, EXO's Chen shared multiple updates to his fans via Bubble. He shared his current physical and mental status. He wrote, translated by Koreaboo:"I'm always healthy in both body and mind, so don't worry about me."EXO's Chen (Image via @exochenn/Instagram)While he didn't clarify on current issues, the K-pop star referenced experiencing "gloomy things," but continued to stay hopeful about it. He encouraged people to stay positive in a subsequent post, per the outlet, writing:"Even if there are gloomy things, let's smile and get through it."EXO's Chen's latest update comes a month after releasing his new EP, Arcadia, as a solo artist, with songs like Help Me (Somebody 2 Love). His 5th mini album topped the iTunes album charts in 14 regions, including Mexico, Argentina, and Thailand. He also had his first solo concert in Seoul, Korea, earlier in October.EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin won't be part of the group's upcoming fan meet reunionSM Entertainment announced EXO's upcoming fan meet on Monday, October 27, delighting countless EXO'verse worldwide. The K-pop boy band is set to reunite and meet their fans on December 13 and 14 at Inspire Arena in Inchon, but instead of the original nine members of the group, only six of them will be taking part in the event. The group's shrinking roster will only see returning members Suho, Chanyeol, D.O., Sehun, Kai, and Lay for the comeback. EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin have been confirmed not to attend the project because of their ongoing lawsuits against their label, SM Entertainment. SM said in a statement quoted by Koreaboo on October 28:"As CBX continues to deny not only the validity of their exclusive contract but also the agreements based on it, the company finds it impossible to continue EXO group activities together."Also, according to the outlet, citing court documents obtained by Law Times, the court has so far sided with SM Entertainment. The ruling reportedly concluded that the company didn't act unlawfully, nor did it mislead CBX in any way. Their dispute started in 2023 after the three EXO-CBX members accused SM Entertainment of locking them in unfair, long-term contracts and asking the court to terminate them. While there was a temporary draw between the two parties, with EXO's group activities continuing under SM while still allowing CBX and solo promotions via their own label, another dispute resurfaced later on. SM alleged that the three EXO members failed to pay them their 10% share of revenue, reportedly stipulated in their earlier agreement.Per Koreaboo, the prosecution has rejected the group's fraud allegations against SM and denied their request to access the company's accounting records.Stay tuned for more news and updates on your favorite K-pop artists as the year progresses.
