From long-lasting marriages to high volunteering, Nebraska is one of the happiest states in the country, according to a new study.
A WalletHub study ranked Nebraska as the third happiest state in America based on well-being, work-life balances and overall community environments.
Overall, Nebraska scored just behind Hawaii and Maryland, and placed ahead of New Jersey and Connecticut.
To determine the happiest states, the study looked at 30 key metrics for each state including depression rates, share of adults feeling productive, income growth and the unemployment rate.

Nebraska was ranked fourth for community and environment, seventh for work environment and ninth in emotional and physical well-being. The Cornhusker State also has the sixth-lowest depression rate.
For all metrics, Nebraska landed fourth for having an adequate-sleep rate and tied for third for having the highest volunteer rate.
While Nebraskans work more hours per week than other states, residents still enjoy the most leisure time in the nation, according to the study. Nebraska also had the fourth-lowest unemployment rate at 2.9% and the second-highest economic security in the nation.
Happiness in Nebraska can also stem from marriages as the state has the sixth-lowest separation and divorce rate in the country, sitting around 18%, according to WalletHub.
