The country roads is also to where you can find the third set of West Virginia high school football rankings after three weeks of play. What seems apparent is everything is starting to settle down amongst the top teams in the state.
Bridgeport remains the state’s top team with an undefeated start while Martinsburg finally picked up their first win of the season, a 70-6 rout of Woodson H.D. (District of Columbia). Who else made an impression last week and enters the Top 25 mix?
Here are the top 25 teams heading into Week 4 of the 2025 West Virginia high school football season, according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory as of Sep. 17.
1. Bridgeport Indians
The Bridgeport Indians (3-0) are coming off an undefeated 2024 season by dominating Herbert Hoover in the Class AAA state championship game. East Fairmont was the latest victim for Bridgeport as they easily cruised to a 56-14 win. Bridgeport sits entrenched atop of the West Virginia rankings as the top team in the state. It’s going to be hard to unseat the Indians as they have a favorable schedule the rest of the regular season ahead of them and could run the table at 14-0 for the second consecutive year. Up next for the Indians is a home date against Philip Barbour (2-1).
2. Huntington Highlanders
Huntington (2-1) was another West Virginia team that ended up losing their opener against an out-of-state opponent, falling to Kentucky’s Paul G. Blazer, 35-21. The Highlanders made all the woes of losing in the opening week go away when they upset Martinsburg, 22-20, a team that they lost to last year by a point the Class AAAA state semifinals. The Highlanders have firmly put themselves at the top of AAAA with the victory over the Bulldogs. Huntington kept the success going when they defeated Spring Valley in a 38-7 decision and now will turn their attention to a winless Hurricane (0-3) team on Friday night.
3. Martinsburg Bulldogs
Now last week was more like the Martinsburg Bulldogs (1-2) folks around West Virginia are used to seeing. Dominance was the name of the game as the Bulldogs rolled to a 70-6 rout of Woodson H.D. last week. Martinsburg has a rich history when it comes to winning state championships and after winning a second straight last year, tested their mettle against New Jersey’s Camden to start the year. The Bulldogs lost the opener and it trickled into last week as they fell in a 22-20 loss To Huntington. The Bulldogs were off to their first 0-2 start since 2015 until they were able to get off the snide against Woodson. Martinsburg looks to make it two in a row when they face Hedgesville this week.
4. Princeton Tigers
There’s not many offenses in the state of West Virginia clicking quite like the Princeton Tigers right now. The Tigers (3-0) are averaging a staggering 45 points per contest behind the play of senior quarterback Chance Barker. Princeton’s signal caller has completed 30 of 48 passes for 483 yards, six touchdowns and only one pick. The Tigers will enjoy a bye week before returning to play on Sep. 26 when they take on Graham.
5. Morgantown Mohigans
Let’s not act like expectations are only high for the University of West Virginia when it comes to football teams that play in Morgantown (3-0). The Mohigans are held to a high standard and they have lived up to them and more in the first three weeks. Morgantown breezed by Parkersburg, Jefferson and Hedgesville by a combined score of 134-21. A 3-game stretch from Sep. 26-Oct. 3 when the Mohigans face Spring Mills, Wheeling Park and Martinsburg will really show where this team is at on the state level. Morgantown returns to action on Friday when they face Connellsville Area.
