(Kaieteur News) – Guyana’s first Wendy’s restaurant will officially open its doors to customers on Monday but ahead of that opening, the company said it will continue its soft launch with limited operating hours from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
In a statement to the media on Friday, Wendy’s said it is pleased with the level of interest shown in the restaurant.
“Excitement is overflowing in Georgetown as large crowds have already begun lining up outside Wendy’s®, one of the world’s most iconic quick-service restaurant brands, days before its official launch.”
According to the restaurant, its team is still being trained but it has opened its doors to “eager customers during this period, offering the public an early taste of the brand’s world-famous square hamburgers, spicy chicken sandwiches, crispy nuggets, fresh salads, and the beloved Frosty® dessert.”
On Thursday, President Irfaan Ali, First Lady Arya Alli and their children joined the management and staff of Wendy’s for a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the Vlissengen Road flagship, marking the brand’s arrival in Guyana.
“We are profoundly honoured by the support of His Excellency and the First Family,” said Iman Khan Cummings, Franchisee and Founder of WenKai Inc. “We are especially grateful that President Ali took time out of his busy schedule to show support for Wendy’s and for Guyana’s growing private sector. His participation underscores the significance of Wendy’s arrival in Guyana and reinforces our shared commitment to community, business growth, and the development of the local economy.”
“The response so far has been extraordinary,” added Cummings. “As we complete training, we’re eager to welcome even more customers with the quality, freshness, and service Wendy’s is known for worldwide.”
The restaurant features a modern, family-friendly dining space, along with Drive-Thru service and Self-Service Ordering Kiosks designed for convenience.
WenKai Inc., a 100% Guyanese-owned company, is committed to job creation, community investment, and establishing Wendy’s as a household name in Guyana.
President Ali congratulated Khan-Cummings for expanding Guyana’s quick service restaurant market while creating new opportunities for citizens.
“I want to thank this family for not only investing but creating so many opportunities for Guyanese families. There are opportunities for you to invest elsewhere but you continue to show confidence in your country and the people of Guyana,” President Ali said.
The Head of State also underscored the positive impact the franchise will have on local employment.
“You’re not only creating employment but you’re empowering employees. I’m also pleased to see a full team of women. This is a woman-powered environment,” he noted, while wishing the business success and expansion across the country.
Khan-Cummings expressed gratitude for the government’s pro-business climate that has encouraged the expansion.
“This is the first of many locations. We’re going to continue to expand, and we’re grateful for a government that paves the way and fosters an environment where we can do so,” she said, adding that the President’s presence at the launch reflects his commitment to the people.
WenKai Inc., part of the Corum Group that last year introduced P.F. Chang’s to Guyana, will roll out three Wendy’s restaurants locally by the end of 2025. Diners can expect all-day service, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as drive-through and delivery options at each outlet.
The flagship restaurant is located at the former KFC building on Vlissengen Road.
